Sask. Party makes campaign promise to crack down on high-risk violent offenders

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. - Brad Wall says the Saskatchewan Party will introduce GPS monitoring for high-risk violent offenders on parole if it wins the Nov. 7 election.

Wall said at a campaign stop in Prince Albert that crime rates in Saskatchewan are falling, but they're still too high.

He outlined plans to spend $3 million a year to hire 10 new police officers to keep an eye on past offenders who are deemed at high risk to become serious violent offenders.

The spending includes money to hire more prosecutors and support staff.

The premier also said the government would work to expand the Prince Albert Community Mobilization Partnership to other communities.

The partnership brings together police, schools, community agencies and others to identify at-risk individuals and intervenes to prevent crime.
