KRONAU, Sask. - Saskatchewan's New Democrats say they will mandate that 50 per cent of the province's electricity come from clean and renewable energy sources by 2025.
The measure is part of a Renewable Energy Act that the party plans to create if elected Nov. 7.
NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter says sources would be a mixture of wind, biomass, solar and hydro.
He says there would be talks with northern communities about ways to create opportunities for bio-mass and low-impact hydroelectricity projects.
The NDP would help with $40 million over four years for research and development projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
As part of its environmental platform, the NDP is also promising $20 million over four years to help municipalities improve recycling programs.
