MOOSE JAW, Sask. - NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter says there's record-high numbers of people using food banks in Saskatchewan, but he says his party has a plan to tackle poverty and help low-income families.

Lingenfelter says the plan includes approaches like raising the minimum wage and rent controls.

The NDP has also promised to increase the Saskatchewan Employment Supplement and increase the assured income for disability program.

The announcement was made in Moose Jaw, where the NDP holds one seat and is trying to win back another seat that it lost by 33 votes in 2007.

Saskatchewan voters head to the polls Nov. 7.
