The federal government is announcing $154,725 in funding aimed at supporting local action to reduce pollution, improve air and water quality, and protect wildlife and natural habitat.
The cash comes from the EcoAction Community Funding Program, and will go towards eight new environmental projects in Newfoundland and Labrador.
"This government is committed to addressing the environmental priorities of Canadians," Environment Minister Jim Prentice said in a press release.
Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) Botanical Garden Inc. is one of the eight projects who have received EcoAction funding in the region. The wildlife-friendly gardening project will be used as a creative learning tool to teach students in grades primary to 12 about the importance of biodiversity.
"This funding will allow us to teach students about the connections between climate change and biodiversity loss, as well as the importance of building a sustainable future," said Dr. Wilf Nicholls, Director of MUN Botanical Garden Inc. "This project will also include information sessions for the public and teachers and a photo and art challenge. A special celebration to recognize the International Year of Biodiversity will also be held at the garden."

Bunch of hypocrites, all they have to do is stop mining companies from trashing our lakes and they wouldn't have to invest a penny to save billions of dollars worth of natural habitat. This is a f-a-rt in a windstorm.
