It’s time for the 32nd annual Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 16 at 11 a.m. Dogs welcome. Walk, run, roll as far as you like around Quidi Vidi Lake. Start at King George V Park soccer complex, located at the head of Quidi Vidi Lake. Arrive early to register and pass in your pledges and purchase Terry Fox t-shirts and other merchandise. Elks of Canada Celebrate 100th Anniversary. On September 15 we will have a 50’s dance with music by Stained Glass. Music starts at 9 p.m. On Sunday, September 16 the Lodge will host a Pig Roast from 2 – 9 p.m. Tickets for both events can be obtained by calling the Elks Club at  722-0095.

 

The Writers’ Alliance Come From Away Reading Series

The Writers’ Alliance Come From Away Reading Series is back. Once again the WANL readings committee has asked three Newfoundland authors to invite three "Come-From-Away" authors to read on the rock. Griffin Prize-winning poet Karen Solie will kick-start the 2012 season with readings in St. John's on Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Cox & Palmer Second Space, LSPU Hall and Corner Brook on Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. at The Bar Room, atop Jennifer's. Solie has been invited to the CFA series by local poet Mark Callanan, who will host the event in St. John's.
