  • Details : Lawnya Vawnya, a festival of independent music and DIY culture in St. John’s, will return April 24th to 27th, 2014 for it’s fourth year. This year’s headlining acts include Polaris Music Prize winners F*cked Up, and indie rockers By Devine Right. The festival borrows its name from an expression in the Newfoundland dictionary that means “to have a good time at a party with plenty to eat” and is building a reputation for its creative programming which includes the hugely popular daytime music crawls and intimate shows throughout downtown St. John’s. Other festival programming will include panel discussions for touring artists, as well as a record and small press fair. Extremely popular in the past has been the Lawnya Vawnya Phone-It-In, which is when festival alumni call in to perform over a bank of telephones throughout the festival weekend. Other musical performers include the Toronto quintet DIANA, hardcore punkers the Soupcans, our favourite indie folk rockers The Burning Hell, and a number of great local talents. This year Lawnya Vawnya has some new members heading the event, but it continues to be an entirely volunteer based labour of love dedicated to producing a festival that both artists and audiences will enjoy, and showcases exceptional creative works from outside the mainstream. Early bird tickets are $60 and are available beginning March 6th at Fixed café, 183 Duckworth Street, or from the festival website.
