  • Place : EN-2001, Memorial University of Newfoundland
  • Time : 19:00
  • Contact : helloworld@codeNL.org
  • Details : Code NL is pleased to invite the general public to the Second Code NL talk and Q & A, featuring Dr. Roman Lukyanenko. Dr. Lukyanenko will be discussing challenges to the prevailing approaches to software development. Dr. Lukyanenko worked as a programmer and database designer/systems analyst in the areas of public service, oil and gas, and electronic commerce. Since 2009, Dr. Lukyanenko has been a part of the exciting NLNature research project – a website that collects observations of plants and animals across Newfoundland and Labrador. The insights from NLNature challenge a number of prevailing approaches to information systems development (for example, conceptual modeling, information quality) and suggest novel ways to design and use information technology. In addition to Russian, English, and a bit of Ukrainian, Roman speaks the languages of data structures and C#. Dr. Lukyanenko has received numerous international awards, including two "best student paper" awards from international conferences, the Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Dean's Excellence Award from the Faculty of Business Administration at Memorial. He has accepted a teaching position at Florida International University beginning this winter. All inquiries can be submitted to helloworld@codeNL.org
