A man is facing a prison sentence of two years less a day following an attack on his wife of one day.
Roy Patrick Mitchell pleaded guilty to one count of assault, uttering threats of death and damage to property, committing arson, and driving a vehicle while disqualified,
On Nov. 6, 2007, Mitchell, his brother and his new wife were in a camper trailer in on Logger School Road near Pinchgut Lake on the west coast. After driving his brother home, Mitchell, who was drunk, returned and became violent.
He punched her six times on her head and arm, causing bruising, he threatened her and began pouring kerosene into the trailer, his wife still inside. She managed to escape and flag down a driver who called the police.
Mitchell meanwhile, had burned down the trailer.
As a part of his sentence, Mitchell will also have to go to counselling and complete two years of probation.
