An 85-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a black dodge truck around 7 p.m. according to sources at the scene of the accident in C.B.S.
People on the scene were attempting to provide first aid to the victim when fire and emergency crews arrived.
The accident happened at the corner of Perrin's Road and the Conception Bay Highway, on an open, straight stretch of road. The cause of the accident is not clear; police are interviewing eyewitnesses and attempting to reconstruct the course of events.
Several kilometres of the highway were shut down due to the accident. Emergency response vehicles were unable to move, for fear of disturbing debris on the scene.

    Unfortunately, this is no surprise.

The CBS highway and Bypass are VERY dangerous roads. If it isn't the 80-100 km/h driving on the CBS Highway or the dangerous autobahn driving on the Bypass, then its the drunk drivers or dump trucks.

There needs to be more enforcement and zero tolerance. The general public needs to be proactive in reporting other drivers to the local law enforcement.
