Ottawa, the province and the City of St. John's are each chipping in $1.5 million for a new YMCA-YWCA building in the city.
Construction on the new building will begin this spring at the corner of Ridge Road and Higgins Line, inside Pippy Park.
The new facility will have a swimming pool, gymnasium, exercise room and meeting room.
It will be environmentally green, heated by a geo-thermal system and will use sunlight for both lighting and heating the building.
The total cost of the project is expected to be $11.3 million with the YMCA-YWCA fund raising the remaining $6.9 million.

Congratulations to the Y on getting the funding for building a new building in Pippy Park. Now to see if we can allow private land holders within Pippy Park boundaries allowed to build a home on their own land.
