Emergency personnel are on scene at the Marine Atlantic ferry terminal responding to a fire aboard the Atlantic Vision.
The ferry went into service in April.
The vessel, which arrived in North Sydney on Dec. 14 from St. John's, N.L., operated between Scotland and Belgium from 2002 to 2004, then between Estonia, Finland and Germany, before being chartered by Marine Atlantic.
On Dec. 27, a fire broke out in one of the ship's boiler rooms.
The ferry is expected to carry passengers and commercial traffic between Cape Breton and Newfoundland until 2013.

Unconfirmed reports from North Sydney indicated that passengers were evacuated from the ferry and the vessel would be out of commission for several days.

More details on what happened will be posted to The Telegram's website as they become avilable.
