An adjudication tribunal convened by the College of Physicians and Surgeons has found Dr. Thomas Cantwell guilty of professional misconduct.
The St. John's psychiatrist was found to have had an intimate and sexual relationship with a patient between 2004 and 2008.
Cantwell, who has served as the clincial chief of mental health with Eastern Health, withdrew from practice in March 2008 and has not practised since.
The tribunal accepted a joint statement of facts and a joint submission on sanction.
It was ordered Cantwell surrender his license and that his name be stricken from the College's medical and specialist registry.
He was also ordered to pay a portion of cost of the disciplinary hearing and the College will publish a summary of the findings by the tribunal.
