Burin RCMP issued two warnings and one speeding ticket to motorists failing to stop for a school bus with its red lights flashing while picking up children in the Marystown area last week.
The RCMP would like to remind motorists that while school buses are operating in the various communities, it is essential that drivers remain aware of the speed limit and stop for buses operating with their red lights flashing.
The Burin RCMP says it will continue a bus shadowing program and school zone safety enforcement, while working with bus operators and school staff to increase the public's awareness.

All the more reason to have mandatory driver retesting in NL at specific time intervals, especially in areas with under-educated aging populations. These areas should also be the target for adult literacy campaigns, because the term 'Stop when red lights flashing' should be understood.
