The Research Centre for Music, Media and Place will host a CD launch featuring rare archival Mi'kmaw recordings from 4:30-6 p.m. at the MMaP Gallery, second floor of the Arts and Culture Centre. Canadian Mental Health Association Newfoundland and Labrador presents "Mindscapes," an exhibit of Open Window Studios (formerly Waterford Art Program) at Eastern Edge Gallery from Oct. 2-7. St. Thomas' Church fall fair will be held 9 a.m. at 8 Military Rd. Morning coffee, baked ham luncheons ($10 each, available at 754-0151), afternoon tea and many stalls.

In recognition of Animal Health Week, St. John's Veterinary Hospital will host a canine first aid seminar from 1-5 p.m. at The Capital Hotel (Salon C) 208 Kenmount Rd. The seminar is designed to teach pet owners important techniques that could save a pet's life during an emergency situation.

The Salmonid Association of Newfoundland (SAEN) will hold fly-tying classes Monday and Wednesday nights. Contact the office for more information at 722-9300.

New essay competition offers opportunity for career guidance to Newfoundland and Labrador youth. All work should be submitted by Oct. 6.
