NDP Leader Lorraine Michael is shocked at Paul Oram's tirade at the media today.
In resigning as health minister and MHA for Terra Nova, Oram lashed out at the media for hounding him and his family.
"We are in public life. We are accountable to the public," said Michael, calling Oram's blast "over the top."
She said Premier Danny Williams should take responsibility for Oram's comments about the media and acknowledge them as inappropriate.
Oram blamed the media for not doing "responsible" reporting."There's been issue after issue after issue," Oram said.
"Quite frankly, I'm not going to expose my family to that anymore and I'm going to move on."
When asked for an example of what he's taken issue to, he said, "A lot of things. If you watch the news you'll know."
After being appointed health minsiter about three months ago media stories stirred controversy over whether Oram was in a conflict of interest because of holdings which include personal care homes. The commissioner of member's interests found no problems with it.
Oram mostly blamed his blood pressure for resigning.
Michael said she would have to take at face value Oram's reasons for leaving as she did the personal reasons cited by Trevor Taylor in stepping down last month.
But she said Williams should be wondering what's going on.
"Surely the premier has to be asking himself what's going on with his own caucus and why he can't hold on to ministers," Michael said.

Michael is doing her job, and it is espcially hard against a demagogue dictator.
The superior attitude you reference actally belongs to Danny Millions. You clash with his supreme being, see ya later!!! How many defectors from Cabinet have there been now???!! The list keeps growing!!!

MOst of the PCs aren't top quality. Most were/are riding Williams coat tails and on their own would never be elected. SO Williams has a large pool to draw from but unforunately only a smal portion are suitable for office let alone a cabinet position.
His tirade and lack of examples against the media shows how Oram was ill equiped to handle the 2nd most important job in the province.
He should go back to burying people, did I say back, maybe keep on burying people.

Paul Oram 's brief stint as provincial Health Minister is over & his exit was surely accompanied by the grace of
an awkward buffalo . Anybody who begins by bragging that briefing notes are unnecessary , digs the deep hole into which he jumped ! It is truly sad that the replacements for
Beth Marshall , from the pathetic Ottenheimer to the noteless Oram ,
have been so disgracefully inept .
Mr. Oram may indeed have a hypertension problem & I wish him well . He also had a drowning problem , in the overwhelming details
of his Ministry that he could not commit to memory . CBC may have reported his decision to refuse briefing notes ...... but it was his silly
statement ! -

If the shoe fits wear it...If memory serves me correct the premier did and said the exact same thing when his son got kicked about outside a bar in a drunken brawl......Too bad, suck it it up....you AND what your family does is public now that you're a public figure....If you don't like it, threaten to sue like Danny did. I was visitng realatives out around the bay and got sick. I drove 30 minutes to get to the hospital. Talked to a few people and they drove anywheres to an hour or so to get there to. So people suck it up. The real complaint should be now that we have to drive,.... is the emergency room care gonna be faster??Is the long waits going to be stopped???
Get on with the correct isssues and say Ta TA to Paul and get the job done! Lorraine when your children get dogged by the media, then give me your opinion, I feel the media should have the brains to leave family out of politics so the real work can be done. -

Again, Lorriane Micheal knows all, and isn't afraid to share her superior opinion with the obligatory microphones in her presence. Glad to see you and your fellow NDP MHAs....oh right you're a party of one... have all the answers to the woes of the province. It is time for Ms. Michael to stop criticizing and refocus on presenting viable options or solutions. There is a reason why the NDP are so poorly represented in the NL legislature.... always a critic but never a problem-solver. Oh, and ideologically, please come into the 21st century forthe times they are a changin'....

Well it was apparent from the very beginning that Paul Oram was ill equipped to handle this portfolio. From is statements that he didn't need any briefing notes, to the way he handled the cut backs. He is a cheerleader not a leader. Good Riddance.

Hopefully this will trigger the fall of the Oil Can Dan Dictatorship. Two Ministers in two weeks let the evacuation begin. The rats are leaving the ship SS Williams. Mr. Oram should have known what he was getting into when he took on politics in the first place. If he can't stand the heat, he's done the right thing by getting out of the kitchen. As for the media, they're just doing their job - I think it's unfair to blame them.
