RCMP Sgt. Wayne Newell confirms that officials have been responding to a bomb threat on Marine Atlantic's vessel, the Atlantic Vision.
The threat, which was found written in a men's washroom on the Vision, specified that the bomb would explode at 3 p.m. today.
Marine Atlantic has evacuated the vessel and the wharf in Port aux Basques, and is currently sweeping the ship for the bomb.
Newell explained that the RCMP detachment in Port aux Basques does not have the resources to do bomb disposal, so their role is simply investigation of the threat.
As per Marine Atlantic's protocols, the other two vessels, the Joseph and Clara Smallwood and the Leif Ericson are being held at North Sydney until the situation is resolved.
Anyone with any information about the incident should contact the RCMP or Crimestoppers.
Updates will be posted as they become available.
