Helly Hansen Canada Ltd. explained to the inquiry into offshore helicopter safety today how it won the contract to supply and maintain 1,200 survival suits for the Newfoundland offshore oil industry in April 2007.
The helicopter underwater escape breathing apparatus (HUEBA) was one of the requirements for the suits stipulated in the contract.
Mark Collins, operations manager for Helly Hansen Canada, said the company knew HUEBA would be part of the contract requirements in early 2006.
The contract also required helicopter transportation suits that meet both the 1999 aviation standard and the 2005 marine standard for these suits.
The inquiry continues today with testimony from Collins.

Forgive my ignorance, but I havent' beenn keeping up on all the details of this case. This article says that HUEBA systems were a part of the contract, but it doesn't say weither or not they were supplied at any time since 2007. Can someone bring me up to speed on this part?
