The Alpine Development Alliance announced today it is undertaking upgrades to facilities and ski terrain at the White Hills Ski Resort in Clarenville in an effort to improve the overall skier experience and operational efficiencies.
The provincial government has contributed $100,000 toward the upgrades.
"In its 20 years of operation, the resort has become a prominent tourism attraction in the area providing direct and in-direct economic opportunities," said Shawn Skinner, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development.
"The current work will contribute to improving the skiing experience and to the resort's long-term viability."
Renovations will include new siding for the exterior of the rental and day lodge located at the base of the hill and the removal of overgrown brush from the ski trails, reducing operational costs such as snowmaking. Additionally, new highway and trail signage, as well as improvements to the resort's web cam capability will enhance its marketing activities.
The Alpine Development Alliance Corp. is a non-profit organization that operates the White Hills Ski Resort in Clarenville. The alliance consists of such community organizations as the Discovery Regional Development Board, Town of Clarenville, along with other interested groups and individuals.
