Governments should help Inuit pay increasing costs of climate change: study

A study suggests Arctic climate change is already costing Canada's Inuit more money.
The study says the costs of adapting to a warming planet are falling on Inuit families least able to shoulder them and it concludes governments should step in to help pay.
The changing Arctic climate has made being on the land less predictable and so has led to the need for safety gear and other equipment.
The researchers say families who depend most on hunting often have the least money to afford new necessities.
The report says governments should also fund better training programs for young hunters and ensure more accurate weather forecasting.

Ha ha ha ha hah hah hah!!!
Perhaps they need gov.(ie us) to provide them with an all inclusive trip to Cancun, so they could get more acclimatised to the warm weather. It was only minus 59 with the windchill in Edmonton last week...minus 59!

Inuit peoples pay taxes just like everybody else. If you're going to accuse someone of such a thing please do your research first. Nothing worse than an uninformed complainer.

Wow, the two things Newfoundland rednecks hate the most: environmentalists and natives!

We consumption-crazed Canadians contributed to the mess that is now impinging on native (and third world) communities, and like spoiled children, we're kicking and screaming that we are having to face the consequences.

Oh and by the way, I was outraged that native people wouldn't allow the RCMP to accompany the Olympic torch accross their reserve in Ont. Last week. When the mountie was asked about it he almost sounded scared to go onto the reserve. Is this what our country has been reduced to?

Well here we go again. Another Indian story.
I for one am sick of these idiots ruining everything for Indians like me. We have troubles here as well. We can barely afford to live in a modern world that is supposed to have a proper grip on this poverty nonsense. Yet these indians are going to go and ask for money from a government that they want nothing to do with until they need money.
All i ever heard growing up in Goose Bay was white man this and white man that. I am half white and by the time i was 14 i was almost a racist myself. It is sickening to think these people want money from whites yet they hate us so much.
Its like this as far as i am concerned. If you dont want our rule then you dont get our money. GET A DAM JOB AND STOP STEALING OUR MONEY. Stop being a burden to the whites and grow up and take responsibility for your own lives. If you get money then we have the right to take away your first nations agreement and make you live as the rest of us do.
In labrador the indians down there seem to think they are above the law and go hunting where ever they want and whenever they want, instead of set places and times.
The first nations and other indian groups say its their land so let em have it. Cut out all funding til they start acting like civilized people.
I am completely ashamed to be an indian at this point and have no respect for them anymore. I brought 2 friends to Goose Bay for a visit and was told by several drunk Indians to GET OFF OUR LAND. So i am returning the favour without the booze and here goes GET OFF MY LAND.
We work and pay tax and you guys are for the most part free of tax. Indians in Labrador can take their LIA card to the liquor Store and get booze charged to the government. I know this to be true and a fact. Im sure if the telegram done some research they would find the wastage of thousands of dollars in booze. As well indians dont have to pay tax on cigarettes or booze or gas. So why do they deserve? Nothing. They havent paid much in the way of tax or wouldnt accept any tax legislated on them? So why are we continiously giving up our taz dollars to groups that hate us. Wouldnt it be just as well to give the money to the terrorists?
What a bunch of loosers. Soon the canadian people will be so sick of this they will demand action on these indians that hate the whites.

I think this is absolutely ridiculous. How long do we the tax-payers have to continue supporting their desired way of life. No one supports us common folk if we experience a change in our daily lifestyles. They want all the perks of being a Canadian citizen without any of the responsibility of being a tax payer. If you want to live off the land, have your own rules to do whatever you want, have your own school systems and govenrnments than that's fine, but don't expect the rest of us to also support you. You can't have your cake and eat it too. It's gotten absolutely outrageous and it's time for legislation to change. Liberal minded QUACKS need to get some common sense and if they want to continue to support this lunacy then it should come out of their pockets!!

I am 100% with Julie on this one. The past is the past! I am really hoping that someday the government will actually take this in the opposite direction, and discontinue offering inuit benifits. There are alot better things to put our tax money towards.

I am NOT suggesting any type of racism (I have a few inuit family members by marriage), but perhaps removing these benifits will make them more.. Civilized? Im just saying, it makes sense to me that children who were born and raised into a household (which was payed for by the government), who got everything basically handed to them, will grow up not knowing the value of hard work. And in turn, teach these ways to their children, etc.

It's for the better, i say
