The Canadian Red Cross on Monday assisted an elderly couple forced from their home Friday when fire damaged their house in Little Bay, just east of Marystown.
While the fire was mostly confined to the kitchen and porch area, the two seniors living there lost their winter outwear such as coats and boots, as well as food.
The Red Cross has helped out with emergency replacement of clothing, personal-care items and groceries. The couple is staying with relatives for now.
Although the home was insured and can be repaired, health concerns due to the smell of smoke plus water damage will likely keep the couple away until cleanup and repairs are completed.
There were no injuries in the fire, reported around 10:30 a.m. Friday.
The cause is under investigation.

If it isn't the Red Cross giving a helping hand it's The Salavation Army. We need more people like this.
