The snow has been falling for a couple of hours in St. John's, but it looks like some places will see more precipitation than was originally forecast.
A severe weather advisory has been put in effect for the southern part of the Avalon Peninsula where between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow will fall before the evening.
St. John's and metro area are only supposed to see about 10 cms before the end of the day while the rest of the Avalon Peninsula will get about five cms.
Strong winds though will blow the snow around creating spots where visibility will be very low.
Environment Canada is suggesting that people watch for further updates as the day goes on.
The snow is expected to taper off to flurries tonight with another two to four cms expected to fall.
