Cupids 400 and Cupids Historical Society presents an evening with Newfoundland and Labrador author Kevin Major 7:30 p.m. at the Cupids Community Centre, Seaforest Drive. Admission is $5, proceeds go to Cupids Legacy Centre Trust. Refreshments will be served. Books available for purchase. SUNDAY, Jan. 17

2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the Edinburgh Mission Conference of 1910. To honour this important stage in the history of interdenominational co-operation, the promoters of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity invited the Scottish churches to prepare the 2010 Week of Prayer theme and resource material. Theme for the week is based on Luke 24:48: You are witnesses of these things. Activities for the week include: Sunday, Jan. 17 6:30 p.m. opening service at Church of the Ascension (Anglican), Smallwood Drive Mount Pearl; Tuesday, Jan. 19 from 8-9:30 a.m. clergy breakfast at The Gathering Place, Basilica Square, including a briefing on the ministries of The Gathering Place; Wednesday, Jan. 20 7:30 p.m. Festival of Music, Prayer and Praise - St. James United Church, Elizabeth Avenue (co-ordinated by Douglas Dunsmore, Gower Street United and MUN School of Music); Friday, Jan. 22 youth event time and location to be confirmed; and, Sunday, Jan. 24 7 p.m. closing service at West End Baptist Church, 314 Topsail Rd.

MONDAY, Jan. 18

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) invites visual artists and fine craftspersons resident in Newfoundland and Labrador to submit proposals for five pieces of artwork. These artworks will be presented to award recipients, in select categories, at the 25th NLAC Arts Awards Gala. Deadline for proposal is Monday, Jan. 18. Deadline for delivery of artwork Friday, April 16.
