Get those shovels, snow scoops and snowblowers ready, as 15 centimetres of snow is expected Thursday for the Avalon and Burin peninsulas.
Snow is expected to begin in the morning, with local blowing snow late in the day. Wind becoming east 30 km/h gusting to 50 in the morning then north 40 gusting to 60 late in the day. High minus 1.
According to Environment Canada's website, a deepening low pressure system southwest of Nova Scotia will track northeastward to pass just south of the Avalon Peninsula late Thursday afternoon.
Snow associated with the system will begin over southern portions of Newfoundland Thursday morning and spread northeastward throughout the day. Total accumulations of 15 centimetres are expected over the Avalon and Burin peninsulas.

For residents of the designated downtown area, there are no snowblower/snow removal operations scheduled for tonight, 12:30 am to 7:30 am, Thursday, January 21, 2010.

Quick, lock your windows and doors. Shut down St. Johns NOW before it is too late. Better call in all snow plow drivers and sidewalk cleaners today.. Oh I forgot, St. Johns has no sidewalk cleaning to speak of. Well those people can clean out the drive ways that the plows block. That would be a good use of those toys they are to use for sidewalks.

I can remember when 15cm of snow was just a dusting and now it is considered a weather-bomb. When 15cm is predicted we either get none or a lot more. The best forecast - look out your window.
