The Wells inquiry into offshore helicopter safety resumes today with questioning of Col. Paul Drover, the director of air force readiness for the Department of National Defence.
Drover was on the stand Wednesday explaining search and rescue services provided by the department.
Today, he faces questioning by lawyers with standing to participate in the inquiry, including St. John's East MP Jack Harris.
Next Tuesday, Cougar Helicopters is scheduled to appear before the inquiry.
Cougar transports oilfield workers offshore, and its search and rescue team was the first to arrive at the March 12 crash in which 17 people died. That team rescued the lone survivor of Cougar Flight 491.

anybody who believes that sending all of our SAR helicopters to the mainland ( at the same time ) for training , leaving the island totally unprotected during that exercise deserves to be in some other line of work , such as star gazing or some other inane occupation . Heaven help us will wonders never cease , lets hope he dont seek employment with the fire department , stupid is as stupid does

With all these inconvenient questions being asked of the DND, it seems the new motto for our forces should be 'Duck and Cover.'

Perhaps if you think our Forces are inadequate you should have done something about it over the last 2 decades that you've allowed them to be stripped down to the point that they can only administer themselves.
