Unfortunate to see her talent wasted in the ineffective senate - she would have been much more of a force and an asser as a minister in our provincial government. I heard someone say that Newfoundland eats its young - how true it is.
Another nail in the coffin of a once promising government.

Our talent pool is already pretty shallow for provincial government positions, and Danny's excommunicating a few of the others out there makes it even worse.

Congratulations to Ms. Marshall. And thanks Danny...you didn't totally snuff her out, but you did get rid of one of our brighter lights.

Want a Senate seat....get Danny pissed at you and Harper will take care of you.

But then, I must say she is a well qualified professional person and will represent NL very well.
    Congratulations !!

Excellant, one of the brightest MHA's we had was just sitting on the backbenches instead of being a real player in provincial government. I'm happy for her and wish her well.

First Harper propped up Fabian Manning with a lifetime paid vacation in the Senate and now he does the same for Beth Marshall. Apparently, the quickest way to easy street with Stephen Harper is to get in Danny's bad books.

Congrats Beth, you were the only MHA with their own brain.

Jordan, Danny Williams is not Newfoundlander and Labrador.

Blind worship like yours is scary and why people like Williams are so powerful. We allow it. Dangerous.

On point, congrats to a fine person!

Congratulations on the senate appointment. It's one of the few over the past number of years that I can support. At least we have a person with ethics and a person that the Newfoundland people are still voting for. Most senators are appointed after the population decides they do not want to be represented by them anymore. Kind of like we don't want them, but the PM says 'Oh yes you will have them anyway'.

Senators do not need your vote any longer and our newest senator, when all has been said and done, has always looked out for number one - just like the rest of them. Human nature dictates that an appointment like this, with the security it has, is seen by the recipient as nothing short of an incredible honor, a flattering pay scale, and a job security like nothing else - including provincial or municipal politics, which is really saying something. Ka'plah, indeed, but keep in mind how useless our Canadian Senate is and how badly it needs reform. If Marshall had the integrity some of you people think she has, she would refuse the seat and be very public about why. A Fabian with REAL integrity would have done the same thing. It's certainly no secret how messed up our senate is and it's certainly no secret that it has to be fixed. Thing is, the will to even attempt a fix doesn't appear to exist. I guess Marshall and Fabian are gonna team up and fix it all from the inside, lol. It'd be nice, but no breath-holders please.

Bones my friend if Danny Williams had some integrity we wouldnt even be talking about this today. Elizabeth Marshall stood up to Danny. Thank God our Prime Minister can see a great person like this for the HONOURABLE PERSON she really is. The lady is better off in many ways most of all she dosent have to deal with the Williams dictatorship any more. Next time you see Danny ask him when the House will open up again Bones. Then again people in positions of absolute power dont need to be held accountable to anyone. That my friend Danny Williams is good at. He is accountable to no one.

After what Stephen Harper did to the Atlantic Accord which cost us 11 Billion dollars or the wipeout of our debt Elizabeth Marshall takes this cusshi 30 year gaurenteed position!!!! I would rather work for Minimun wage than to bow to the wishes of Harper. I do not believe I could take a job like that and walk the streets back home and take the flack that she will have to put up with from fellow Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

Ah, they were both banished by Dictator Dan for taking a stand against party lines and expressing opinions opposite to the Supreme Leader. I guess Steve is still gettin' his digs in at Dan.

For a man who claim he wants to reform the senate; to make it more democratic he sure doen't mind using it for the most base of political purpose. Fabian has made no secret about his wish to run in avalon again and in the meantime he is collecting a fine salary as a senator and the freedon to travel around the district promote himself at will. He even gets to hand our tbits of federal funding. Now we have liz Marshall. Harper has repeatly ask ther to run for him. I think it likely she has accepted and will run in whatever St. John's district they think they have the best shot at. In meantime as a senator she will get the same deal as fabain. She sure to have higher profile as a senator then she ever had as a backbencher. If there is one thing I'm totally certain of is the PM dosen't do anything unless he has a political strategy associated with it.
