Cougar execs continue presentation to offshore helicopter safety inquiry

Cougar Helicopters' executives are on the stand again today at the Wells inquiry in St. John's.
The executives are expected to continue a presentation to the inquiry into offshore helicopter safety.
The inquiry, with a mandate to recommend ways to make offshore helicopter travel safer, was created following the March 12, 2009, crash that claimed the lives of 17 passengers and air crew aboard a Cougar helicopter bound for the offshore oilfields.
Cougar is contracted by the offshore oil companies to fly workers to and from the oilfields off Newfoundland.
It also provides medevac and first-response search and rescue services to the offshore oil industry.
Appearing for Cougar today are: Rick Burt, general manager and senior vice-president of oil and gas for parent company, VIH Aviation Group; Hank Williams, general manager for East Coast Canada; and Richard Banks, director of safety and quality.
