With 16 studio albums behind the name and hits including the cover track "Bad Side of the Moon," April Wine is set to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
The announcement was made by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) Monday in Toronto.
Official recognition of the honour will be made during the 2010 JUNO Awards gala on Sunday, April 18 in St. John's, according to the academy.
Founding April Wine member, vocalist and guitarist Myles Goodwyn responded to the announcement in a statement released by CARAS.
"To be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame is a tremendous honour; and on behalf of all April Wine members, past and present, a heartfelt thank you to the JUNO Awards. I look forward to the presentation in Newfoundland on April 18th," said Goodwyn.
It was Goodwyn who joined with guitarist David Henman, drummer Ritchie Henman and bassist Jimmy Henman to form April Wine in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1969. In 2009, the band (albeit with a few different names as the years went by) celebrated 40 years in the music-making business.

Just a side note to add to this story, long time April Wine drummer Jerry Mercer who was with the band from 1973 to 2008 is a Newfoundlander, from Upper Island Cove I believe.

Fitting that April Wine is inducted in Newfoundland - they've toured every town, cove and inlet here over the past 20 years. Will Trooper and Toronto be part of the celebration?

I am sure they will be here later this summer playing in some hole in the wall community. Induct the band then! Who cares.

To Darrell and Bonzo. No is forcing you to see them. If they can get an audience and are appreciated in any cove or outport or some hole more power to them. I would rather pay to see them then have to listen to someone complaining about them touring. If they didn't enjoy it, they wouldn't keep coming back.
