It's looking to be a wild, windy and wet night for the east coast, Avalon and Burin peninsulas, according to Environment Canada.
In its weather warning, snow and blowing snow is forecast to begin early this evening with strengthening northerly winds.
Total snowfall accumulations possibly reaching 10 centimetres are expected before the weather changes to freezing rain later this evening. The east coast, Avalon and Burin peninsulas will experience several hours of freezing rain before changing to rain by Friday morning.
These wintry conditions will spread westward overnight and into Friday. Areas along the northeast coast and Northern Peninsula East may possibly receive significant snowfall accumulations before changing to rain or freezing rain on Friday.

No, Jack, the weather isn't random. If the weather were random, it would be entirely impossible to forecast it.
As for the wind, the temperature doesn't change based on wind speed. Ambient temperature is the same, but we get thing thing called wind chill - which, if you look closely at Environment Canada, you will see posted when the temperature is below 0 and there is a substantial wind speed.
You seem to be under some misapprehension that Environment Canada controls the weather. -

Have everyone noticed that Environment Canada forecasts seem to be rigged or fixed as of late (correct me for being a little silly)?
Over the last week or so, daytime high or temperatures seem to be same, and its mild, and I thought that weather is supposed to be random and not fixed.
Another reason for my suspicion is that even though we are getting northerly type winds, temperatures seem to get warmer and not colder like its supposed to in the Northern Hemisphere.
Having one or two days of mild temperatures is ok, but two weeks is definitely not right.
Time for an explanation from Environment Canada for the consistently warm weather despite northerly winds. -

In the Northern Hemisphere, which Newfoundland and Labrador are located, when winds come from the north, it often means cooler temperatures, but come from the south or from the west if the jetstream is zonal and you get warmer temperatures.
That's the part that makes sense as northerly type winds come from the Arctic while southerly type winds often come from the tropics or sub-tropics.
Correct me for being silly again, but what I don't understand is when winds come from the North, why do we get warmer weather instead of colder?
And what I meant by random is that weather should be different every day or up to five days, and not constant for up to two weeks. -

Well Jack, some people are some hard to please and you my friend are one of them... just take it day by day and forget what environment canada has said or will say, if you look further, there are discrepencies in all the forecasts... just go out and enjoy this lovely weather when you can and tun off the computer or tv, wherever you get your source from...

The weather patterns all over the eastern seaboard are all over the place. Florida had frost and freezing temps. Washington (considered a southern city) had record snow falls. And Newfoundland is having mild temps. Well, its called global warming, and an El Nino winter.
That has to do with the ocean currents as you may know. It's all related. But for the best weather forcast, look out the window...its the most accurate! -
