Monday marks the 28th year since the Ocean Ranger sank off Newfoundland's Grand Banks.
On Feb. 15, 1982 a mayday call was sent out from the oil rig, reporting a severe list to the port side and requesting immediate assistance.
The crew eventually had to abandon the rig in stormy seas. All 84 crewmembers died, including 56 Newfoundlanders.
An annual Ocean Ranger Memorial Prayer Service, sponsored by Gonzaga High School will be held Monday morning to remember those who lost their lives. The service will begin at 10:45 a.m. at St. Pius Tenth Church with everyone welcome.
