Tourism Minister Terry French today presented two awards - the Cultural Tourism Award and the Doug Wheeler Award - to leaders in the province's tourism and cultural tourism sectors.
The presentations took place in Gander during Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador (HNL) Lookout! Tourism Summit, the industry association's 27th annual conference and trade show.
McCarthy's Party is this year's recipient of the Cultural Tourism Award, presented annually by the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, in partnership with the Department of Canadian Heritage and Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador.
This year's Doug Wheeler Award to Mayor Jim Miller of Trinity, a dedicated proponent of cultural heritage and tourism development.
The Doug Wheeler Award is presented each year to honour the long-time provincial public servant, who passed away in 1981. The award commemorates his early efforts to promote Newfoundland and Labrador as a tourism destination, and recognizes outstanding contributions to the tourism sector.
