The shovel and your back may get a rest this morning on the Avalon Peninsula where today's predicted snowstorm turned more to rain mixed with snow, but a snow warning is still in effect on the Burin and Bonavista peninsulas for today.
Some schools were closed for the morning and some events cancelled or delayed. Road conditions are very slippery with a buildup of slush.
According to Environment Canada, the rain mixed with snow is expected to change to snow during the morning. Rainfall amounts of 10 mm and snowfall amounts of five to 15 cm are predicted for these areas today.
The wind is blowing east 40 km/h gusting to 60, except gusting to 80 along parts of the coast. The temperature is expected to fall to minus 1 this afternoon.
Tonight, flurries or freezing drizzle are expected, which will end later in the evening.
For Saturday, there is a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a temperature near minus 1.
