The shortlist for the Lillian Shepherd Memorial Award for Illustration, meanwhile, includes both Kathy Kaulbach for "Johnny and the Gipsy Moth" from Tuckamore Books (an imprint of Creative Publishing) and Scott Keating for "What Colour is the Ocean?" from Flanker Press.

As well, one of the most recognizable of the 11 awards, the Thomas Head Randall Atlantic Fiction Award, will mark its 20th year in 2010.

The nominees for the anniversary Thomas Randall prize are: Linden MacIntyre for "The Bishop's Man," Shandi Mitchell for "Under This Unbroken Sky" and local author Michael Crummey for "Galore."

The regional Atlantic Book Awards will be handed out as part of the Atlantic Book Festival, running April 10 to April 18. Festival details for 2010 are to be released in the coming weeks, but are expected to include free readings and events in all four Atlantic provinces.

The book awards gala is set to be co-hosted by Costas Halavrezos of CBC Radio's Maritime Noon and Newfound-land and Labrador comedian Berni Stapleton.
