Seal meat hors-d'oeuvre and main courses will be on the lunch menu at the parliamentary restaurant on Wednesday.
Senator Celine Hervieux-Payette says representatives of all political parties on Parliament Hill plan to sample the delicacies.
The restaurant, an exclusive enclave for senators, MPs and journalists, said last fall it would add seal to a menu which routinely features beef tenderloin, salmon, even bison.
The idea of serving seal came after Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean gnawed on a piece of raw seal heart during a northern visit last fall.
While she was sharply criticized in Europe by seal hunt opponents, Ottawa politicians decided to follow her lead.
Actually getting the meat on the menu was a delicate task, because MPs and senators were reluctant to dictate choices to chef Judson Simpson.
Hervieux-Payette, a Liberal senator and a strong supporter of the seal hunt, says the Wednesday lunch will allow politicians to demonstrate their backing for the hunt.
MPs say the addition of seal meat to the menu will be a boost for sealers battling a European Union ban on their products.

Well well well, so getting seal meat on the lunch menu at the parliamentary restaurant on Wednesday was a delicate task, was it ? Apparently because MPs and senators were reluctant to dictate choices to chef Judson Simpson. If chef Simpson had a clue, seal meat would already have been on the menu. The Governor General, God love her, ate a piece of raw seal meat and now these high and mighty MPs and senators, who usually stuff their faces on beef tenderloin, salmon and bison ( a humped back ox), at the taxpayers' expense, are actually going to try seal meat on their sensitive taste buds ? Are these jokers and their hoity toity chef too stunned to realize that seal meat is the most nutritious meat that a person can eat ?
