Seventeen people lost their lives when Flight 491 plunged into the North Atlantic 55 kilometres east of St. John's March 12, 2009. Robert Decker was the only survivor.

A special memorial service for the 17 victims of Flight 491 will be held in St. John's today at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist.

The ecumenical service is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., with pre-service music at 6:15 p.m. It is open to the public. The service will also be broadcast live by NTV.
