Ronald McDonald House Newfoundland and Labrador (RMHNL) will receive a $30,000 donation from Keyin College, as part of the college's 30th anniversary celebrations.
The college also made a further commitment of 2,500 volunteer hours during the first year the house is in operation.
Gerry Beresford, chairman of the board of directors of RMHNL, said they are grateful that Keyin chose to celebrate its milestone by supporting Ronald McDonald House.
"Their financial support will help us build the house and their volunteer commitment will help make it a home," he said.
According to a news release, the goal of Ronald McDonald House® is to make children receiving medical care and their families feel as comfortable and at home as possible. Home-cooked meals, warm and comfortable bedrooms, welcoming common areas, and playrooms for kids all help foster this type of environment.
Keyin College president Des Whelan said supporting the community is important for the school.
"We know our staff and students will benefit greatly from the experiences we gain through our relationship with Ronald McDonald House," he said. "It's a great feeling to know we will make a difference in the lives of children and families from across our province who will come to call Ronald McDonald House home."
Ronald McDonald House will offer a home-away-from-home for families from across Newfoundland and Labrador while their children receive care and treatment at the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre.

Wow it must have really hurt them to give up the equivalent of the cost of a semester of school for 1 student. These places are a royal ripoff, and aren't recognized as a valid education by industry.

Not to mention the free publicity they get for offering scholarships to Beauty Pageants that have no monetary value and only include a seat in a classroom (tuition). They don't even pay for the girls' books. Yet the Keyin name is plastered all over the programs... non transferrable and only at one campus.

To Brad's comments. Last time I checked there are thousands of Keyin Graduates working as a result of the education they have received from Keyin. As to $30,000 tuition per semester, its too bad narrow minded people base their comments on crap and not facts. Hats off to Keyin for their support, more individuals and organizations should come forward with their support. By the way Keyin students can now transfer their credits to Cape Breton University towards a Degree not bad for a school supposedly not recognized by industry.
