A public meeting in Natuashish to discuss the alcohol ban will be held this morning at 10:30 a.m. (10 a.m. in Labrador.)
Newly elected Innu leader Simeon Tshakapesh called the meeting, saying that the community needs to revisit the three-year-old ban on alcohol.
With the meeting scheduled to start at the school at 10 a.m. local time, one resident predicted that it could run until 5 p.m.
Tshakapesh said it would last as long as it has to; he said this was the first opportunity the public has had to openly and freely discuss the ban.
Further updates later.

This is news? Wether they ban it or not the community will never be a dry community.
I am from this area and can take you to every house on the reserve that has alcohol. That would be 95 percent of them. This is another ploy to come up with a reason to say they need more money.

Natuashish needs a leader, which is something Simeon Tshakapesh is not. A leader is someone who guides his people, not someone that is led in every decision by the whims of the mob.
Simeon, show some leadership, make the right decision, keep the booze out of your troubled community. Lead one of the only Innu communities in the country that is not a disgrace to all first nation people.
