The father of a Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan in September 2008 is paying tribute to his son by bringing a long-held dream to life.
That dream is about steel wheels and custom paint jobs.
Jim Seggie is restoring a green, 1968 Barracuda that his son, Mike, loved before he was killed overseas.
The soldier, based at CFB Shilo, never had a chance to bring the muscle car back to its former glory, so his dad is finishing the job.
Jim is showing off the car's empty chassis, custom seats and chrome engine at a car show in Winnipeg this weekend.
The proud father says that vehicle was the young soldier's passion and it seemed a fitting way to remember him.
"We have to restore it in his honour and his memory. This is what he was going to do with it," Jim said Friday.
"When he got back from Afghanistan he was going to take this car down to Shilo, him and his buddies were going to strip it down and build it from the wheels up," he said.
The father said he has had lots of help from the community in the restoration effort and hopes to have it completed by this time next year.
