St. John's spelling sensation Anna Henley has been eliminated from the Canwest Canspell National Spelling Bee in Ottawa after six rounds.
Anna won this province's regional spelling bee earlier this month after correctly spelling the word "debutante."
But after the sixth round, Anna was eliminated along with nine other spellers. It's not known what word got her ousted from the competition.
The 13-year-old St. Bonaventure's College student beat out 48 competitors from across the province, won a $5,000 Canspell education award, and went on to compete at the national spelling bee in Ottawa.
Other spellers not moving on to final rounds are:

• McKenzie Warriner, Grade 8, age 13, Regina Leader-Post
• Cynthia Dykhuisen, Grade 7, age 12, Prince George Citizen
