Municipal Capital Works funding of $120,000 has been provided to the town of Ferryland to support emergency breakwater repairs which occurred as a result of storm damage.
"This investment supports repairs and cleanup which were required to secure a collapsed seawall, and ensure that road access was safe for residents," Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs, said today in a news release.
"We are pleased to work with the town to address the immediate safety issue, and secure the area until a permanent replacement of the seawall occurs."
Ferryland MHA Keith Hutchings said the events of December caused significant destruction to Pool Road and the breakwater in Ferryland.
"This damage caused severe disruptions to residents who needed access to the area and as well posed serious concerns for this year's tourism season, related to accessing the Colony of Avalon archaeological site and business sites, like the Ferryland Lighthouse Picnics," he said.
"By working with the Department of Municipal Affairs and the town council of Ferryland we were able to secure this emergency funding to provide repairs to the road and secure the shoreline with new stone."
