Eastern Health says a break-in occurred early Tuesday morning at the Torbay Community Health Office, which houses offices in public health and continuing care, and mental health and addictions.
An intruder broke into the clinic at approximately 12:30 a.m. by climbing onto a porch roof at the rear of the building and breaking a small window.
A number of filing cabinets and desks were opened and some papers strewn around the floors. The incident is still under investigation by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC).
Eastern Health advises, however, that in consultation with the RNC, officials are confident that nothing but a very small amount of cash was removed from the premises and that accessing confidential information did not appear to be the intent of the intruder.
All client records have been accounted for and the incident was reported to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Patients or clients of the Torbay Community Health Office, who have any questions or concerns, are asked to contact Eastern Health's Client Relations Line at 777-1399.
