The RCMP is reminding the general public to be on guard for potential fraudulent telephone marketing schemes that have been circulating by telephone and e-mail in the Baie Verte Peninsula area.
The RCMP says some members of the public have experienced telephone contact by a company claiming to represent a credit card company and offering to reduce the high credit card interest for a fee.
Police say a financial lending institution or public utility should never require information by e-mail or pressing numbers on a telephone set.
If you have been a victim of a fraudulent transaction, contact the detachment and/or report it to Phone Busters at 1-888-495-8501.
