Sci-Fi On The Rock kicked off this morning.

The fourth annual convention is expected to draw more than 1,200 fans to the Holiday Inn in St. John's this weekend, though convention organizers say that due to the Volcano activity closing airports in Europe Mike Savva, who appeared in episodes one, two and three of the Star Wars franchise, will not be able to attent the convention.

Workshops, which included a how-to program on building your own R2D2, started at 10 a.m. at the Holiday Inn.
