The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is warning the general public of a credit card scam ongoing in the St. John's and surrounding area.
The RNC has been advised that citizens have received calls from someone disguising themselves as representatives of various banking institutions.
The callers appear to be very legitimate and in some cases have information that would make the intent of the call appear to be very legitimate. The caller will ask for certain information about a person's credit card and provide personal information back to the individual thereby creating the facade of being legitimate.
The RNC would like to emphasize that there are no banks that will call any of their customers and request personal information over the phone.
If anyone receives a call similar in nature to that which is described and is unsure of what to do, simply do not give any personal information and contact your bank immediately and notify the RNC, RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
