Montreal -
Air Canada says it plans to operate a full slate of 40 flights to Europe today now that ash from an Icelandic volcano is abating.
But the airline warns that some airspace restrictions remain in place and that flight schedules remain subject to change.
Air Canada is adding extra flights and larger aircraft, but says it will take several days to clear up a passenger backlog.
Planes are flying into all of Europe's top airports but experts predict it could take days to clear a backlog of stranded passengers.
About 102,000 flights were cancelled around the world since the ash began spreading across Europe last week.
Eurocontrol, an air traffic control agency in Brussels, says 21,000 of the continent's 28,000 scheduled flights will go ahead today.
Airlines say they lost at least US$1.7 billion in revenue during the ash crisis.
