'An incredible lady'

Published on April 24, 2010

A visit that was nearly cancelled because of international air travel disruptions caused by volcanic ash clouds got off to a smooth start Friday as Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, began her first visit to this province since 1991.

The daughter of Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh arrived at St. John's International Airport at mid-afternoon aboard a Canadian Forces Challenger jet, and was greeted by about a dozen dignitaries, including Lt.-Gov. John Crosbie and Lt.-Col. Alex Brennan, commander of the first battalion of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.

    Trivia:

The Captain of the Canadian Forces Challenger Jet who is photographed taking a salute at the bottom of the Aircraft steps is none other then your local 515 Air Cadet Squadrons W/O Jeff Andrews. Gary Hebbard of the Telegram who actually took the photo/video also had a son in the same Squadron at the same time.

This visit is for the Regiment!!! Nothing more, nothing less. I am ashamed of you idiot naysayers, if you can't show some support or pride for this celebrated and historical NFLD institution, then shut your f***ing pie holes and leave the province. You people are not wanted nor needed!!!

I hope Miss Princess really enjoys a bumpy ride around the City and that some explains to her that we can't afford to fix the potholes because we need to spend the infrastructure budget to bring the Royals to town. There are very few people in NL that care about the monarchy. This was exhibited quite clearly with the poor turnout for Charles and Camilla's meet and greet at Mile One. This City is literally falling apart yet we are still spending money to bring the world's most famous Welfare Receipients to town.Must be nice.
