Montreal -

A 59-year-old man was killed, possibly as a result of a beating, Monday morning.

Police said a man succumbed to critical head injuries after being found on a street shortly after 6 a.m., Montreal police Constable Yannick Paradis said.

Another man, age 33, was with the victim when police arrived, and Paradis said he was being questioned and is considered an important witness. The men may have been roommates, media reports said.

Montreal police Const. Anie Lemieux said "it seems like there was a fight and the man died" but it is too soon to say if the death was a homicide. The police major crimes investigations unit was en route to the scene, she added.

A red pickup truck with a Newfoundland and Labrador licence plate may be linked to one of the men, Lemieux said.
