As of 9:44 this morning, a Canadian Forces Cormorant helicopter from 103 Search and Rescue Squadron in Gander was responding to a mayday distress call.
The message was received from a vessel that appears to be approximately 70 nautical miles northeast of St. John's, according to the squadron.
More information will be published as it becomes available.

What a waste of fuel; by the time they get there, the poor souls are gone, or if lucky, already rescued and being treated; What a farce this rescue thing is, being based in gander! Why do us fools (read newfies ) put up with such nonsense, and not even a whisper of support from the big mouths who occupy confederation hill!!Sad, so many lives on the line. If this was a popular cause, like sending money and gifts to somewhere like haiti, all you see are the big mouths on TV saying how wonderful it is to be able to help others!!! Help our own!!!!
