Confidence among Canada's small and medium-sized business owners fell in April, according to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), but the federation says the level of confidence in Newfoundland and Labrador has actually increased.
The CFIB's business barometer index for April was 66.4 nationally, down from 69.9 in March, an indication that the fast pace of overall economic growth experienced last winter is beginning to cool.
But the index for this province in April was 71.9, up from 64.6 in March.
The federation says the level of business confidence in Newfoundland and Labrador is well above the Canadian average, and second highest in the country.
Fifty-three per cent of business owners in the province said the overall state of business is good, while 45 per cent rated it as satisfactory. Sixty-six per cent said their greatest cost concern is wages.
More information can be found on the CFIB website, www.cfib.ca.
