An Alberta couple who say their mentally disabled son was allowed to buy a ticket and board a flight with only his Costco and Visa cards as ID wants answers from Air Canada.
Doug Tiedeman is 21 years old, but has cerebral palsy and functions at the mental age of a 12-year-old.
Two weeks ago, he met a woman in London, Ont., on Facebook and decided to hop a plane in Calgary to meet her.
The family spent a frantic 24 hours trying to track Tiedeman down and eventually found him in London with the help of police.
Ironically, Tiedeman had trouble getting a ticket home because he didn't have the proper ID.
Air Canada says it is investigating what happened.

Well said Hand Basket as well I would question the child care worker as anyone with that mental age should be constant care.

The man deserves to have some sort of money on him, what if he went out and got lost and needed transportation home? Just because of his condition, that doesn't mean he's not capable of handling money. Society has to look out for people who cannot fully look out for themselves.
Air Canada, I've boarded many planes without showing ID at the counter or the gate...it's time this got some attention! -

............if he was denied a ticket, people would be crying discrimination. As the agent who sold the ticket probably feared.
Operating at 12 year old level and has a Visa? Hard call, I'd say the family should be more responsible. -
