This 11-month-old female moose rests in Bannerman Park this morning before being tranquilized by wildllife officer Bill Collins about 9:45 a.m. The moose was checked over by wildlife officers and then transported by truck to Paddy's Pond were it was released. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary also reported a number of moose sightings overnight in the Mount Pearl area.

    Now, why can't this be done along our highways. By the way, how many wildlife officers do we have ??????

    The MLA in the district of a moose/vehicle accident should have to pay the funeral expenses of someone killed in said accident out of his/her own paycheque. Maybe then the gov't would stop protecting these useless, non-native ungulates. Being able to hunt moose in this province shouldn't be more important than protecting people driving on the highways in the dark. Open season on moose until they are extinct on this island.

    That's a good idea...bring it out by the TCh to release it...so it can stumble blindly in front of some passing motorist. I just wish we could declare the Avalon as a moose free zone, open season, all year long for anyone who wants a moose as long as it's on the Avalon. Then and only then will there be a decrease in moose vehicle fatalities.

    To Dee Bee;

    It never ceases to amaze me,how dumb some people can be.So this MLA should pay for moose that was brought here probably before he was born,if there is an accident.

    Oh no, Brian, don't be silly! We don't remove moose from our busy highways, we drop them off there. It's sort of a Newfie joke, only instead of a punchline it ends with a moose going through a windshield.
